Beginner

You are able to cast on, knit, purl, cast off

Advanced Beginner

You have finished at least 1 project.

You are familiar with terms used in patterns and can read a basic pattern.

Intermediate

You have finished several projects.

You know how to increase, decrease and fix basic mistakes.

 

Classes

 

 

FREE Knit Night

Are you looking for a way to meet other knitters and crocheters? Come to Butterfly Yarns on Tuesday nights this summer to knit, share ideas, and socialize with other crafty people! (And yes... we do have air conditioning- YAY!)

Remember- there is not a teacher on duty for this class... this is a time to come knit and have fun!

Cost: FREE

Prerequisite: Beginner Knitting/Crochet Skills

Tuesdays:  6:15 PM- 8:30 PM All Summer

Starting in September we will have our knit night the first Tuesday of the month and possible some other dates thrown in! Keep an eye this page for all the info!

 

Butterfly Yarns Knitting Circle

Come start a project of your choosing or work on a current project. What a great way to get those presents done in time for the holidays!! One of our wonderful teachers (Debbie, Donna, Kim or Mary) will always be on hand to help with reading patterns, fixing mistakes and any other knitting dilemma. 

 

Cost:  $10 (or free with purchase of $10 or more)

Sundays: Cancelled for the Summer- Will resume again September 7

 

Beginner Knitting

Do you want to learn how to knit?  Take this two week course and learn how to cast on, knit, purl and cast off.  After finishing this course, you will be ready to start your first project. There's still time to make some gifts for holiday presents!! 

 

Cost:  $35

Materials:  worsted weight yarn (nothing fuzzy!) and size 8 or 9 needles

Saturdays: 11:30 AM - 1 PM July19 & 26

Saturdays: 11:30 AM - 1 PM October 4 & 11

 

Christmas In July

July is the perfect time of year to start a christmas stocking... that way you have more than enough time to finish it!! If you are motivated you may even get more than one done in time for this christmas! You can make any stocking you would like, however if you choose to use a kit from Judy's Colors (and you preorder by June 12th) then you will get $20 off of your class admission. If all but one of the dates fits into your schedule and you would still like to take this class talk to Kim, we can probably make arrangements!

Wednesdays:  6:30 PM- 8 PM July 9, 23, 30 & August 13

Foliage Hat

This is a perfect christmas present for someone you love... or yourself!! This is a great pattern that will help you become comfortable with a simple lace pattern on a chunkier yarn. You will learn how to do basic lace (Yarn overs and decreases), read a chart and knit in the round. Please print out the pattern before you come to class!

Cost: $40

Top-Down Baby Sweater

Have you made a sweater from the top down yet? If you haven't you don't know what you are missing out on! My favorite thing about top down sweaters: NO SEAMS! In this 4 week class you will learn how to make either a baby cardigan or pullover. You will learn how to read a pattern, knit in the round, pick up stitches and so much more.

Cost: $55

Wednesdays:  6:30 PM- 8:00 PM September 10, 17, 24, & October 1

Fair-Isle Knitting

Learn how to do fair-isle knitting while trapping the yarn. This technique allows you to do multi color knitting without all of the strands of yarn on the wrong side of your work! This is a perfect technique hats, mittens, bags and more! You will have a choice of either starting a small bag or a headband in this class.

Cost: $40

Let's Make Baby Things!

I don't know about you- but I've been noticing a small baby boom lately! And what do I first think of when I hear a new baby's on the way?? That's right- knitting baby things! In this class you will make a baby hat and booties. This class is great for knitters of all levels. If you are a beginner then you can make a simple roll brim baby hat and some basic booties. If you're a little more advanced why not try a hat with cables or color work and some cute little socks.

Mittens

Mittens make the perfect holiday gift! Come take this class with mary and you'll be able to make up a couple pairs before it starts getting cold. Choose your own pattern for this class- basic mittens, honeycomb mittens (did you miss mary's class last year?!?), matrix mittens , double mittens (above picture) or any other pattern of your choice! You can make mittens using double pointed needles or the magic loop technique.

Cost: $55

Sundays:  1 PM- 2:30 PM October 5, 12, 19 & 26

Socks using the Magic Loop

Back again by popular demand! This class will be open to beginners and those who already know how to do the magic loop. Beginners will use Kim's sock pattern to make a basic woman's sock. Those with experience can choose a more complicated pattern such as the monkey socks, lacey mock cable socks, Tidal wave socks or any other one that you like!

Cost: $55

Workshops

 

Fixing Mistakes with Kim

Learn how to fix all those mistakes that drive us crazy. You will learn how to fix dropped stitches, twisted stitches, change knits into purls and so much more!! The class is limited to 4 people so sign up soon!!

Cost:  $30

Materials:  worsted weight yarn (not fuzzy!) needles size 8 or 9, crochet hook (sz G or H)

Saturday: 1 - 2:30 PM September 6

Mitred Squares

We will make a mitred square dishcloth in this workshop. When you are done you will know all the basics of mitred squares and be able to design a baby blanket or felted purse!

Cost:  $30

Materials: cotton yarn: either self-striping or several colors, needles to go with your yarn

Tuesdays: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM September 16

 

Mini Sock Workshop

Have you wanted to learn how to make socks on the magic loop but just couldn't fit all 4 weeks of a class into your schedule??? Well, we decided to do this 1 day sock workshop. You will learn all the steps to making a sock on the magic loop while you make a very cute mini sock. (limited to 4 people... so sign up soon!)

Cost: $50

Saturday:  10:30 AM- 4:30 PM (with 45 minutes for lunch/break) October 25

 

Finishing

The secret to a beautiful handmade garment is all in the finishing work. If you've ever wondered how to block something, or how to get your seams looking perfect, then this is the class for you!

materials: two 4" garter squares, two 4" stockinette squares, tapestry needle, scissors, pen & paper, non-fuzzy yarn and appropriate needles

Cost: $30

Wednesday:  6:30- 8:30 PM October 29

Why doesn't my sweater fit?!?

Alright, time to fess up - we've all said this at least once after finishing a project! Mary is going to explain the ins and outs of getting your garment to fit YOU not the model in the picture! She will go over gauge (I know, it's a dirty word!), how to take your own measurements, and how to modify patterns to fit you. Bring in a pattern or 2 that you are interested in making and you'll get a jump start on making it fit correctly.

materials: pen & paper, tape measure, sweater patterns, non-fuzzy yarns and appropriate needles, one 4" garter swatch, one 4" stockinette swatch, any sweaters that you made that did not end up fitting quite right!

Cost: $30

REGISTRATION INFORMATION - You may register for a class in person, by mail or over the phone.  The class fee must be paid in full to enroll in a class. You may pay by check, cash or credit card.  If enrolling by mail make sure to list the class name and date as well as your phone number.

CANCELLATION POLICY - Classes are fully refundable until seven days before the class.  Butterfly Yarns reserves the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment, bad weather or instructor illness.  In the event of cancellation, you will receive a full refund. Classes are non-transferable.
